A big snowstorm blanketed us with about 8-10" of snow, enough to cross-country ski straight out the garage onto BLM land! In subsequent days, as the snow melted, we switched to hiking the canyon rims. This cliff on a side canyon with its cliff-perching juniper captured my imagination. Although this locale is only about 15 minutes from my house, it feels like a national park, especially in winter. I thought about the painting for a few months before I finally rendered it in the heat of early summer! In honor of the many beautiful junipers that surround me, I named it Winter Canyon Juniper.
